About Payments Atlas
Payments Atlas covers payment infrastructure in the Gulf, the European Union and the United States: how the APIs work, and what the rules require.
The site publishes two kinds of thing. Integration guides are technical, aimed at engineers, and come with sample code you can clone and run. Market analysis is aimed at product and compliance teams, and covers regulation, scheme rules and gateway pricing.
It is written by one person, a .NET developer working in financial technology. There is no newsroom and no contributor network.
Who it is for
Engineers integrating a payment gateway or a banking API for the first time in a given market. Product managers deciding which provider to build on. Compliance and finance staff who need to know what a regulation requires before the legal review starts.
It assumes you know your own domain. Guides do not explain what an HTTP request is, and analysis does not explain what a merchant acquirer does.
Why the Gulf
The UAE, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain have all introduced open banking frameworks since 2020, and the region has a large and growing base of local processors. Very little practical English-language material exists on any of it. Most of what does exist is vendor marketing. That gap is the main reason this site exists.
EU and US coverage is narrower and more selective, because both are already well served.
Standards
Technical guides are written against public documentation and against test integrations built independently for the purpose. Every guide links the repository so you can check the code rather than take my word for it.
Analysis cites the primary source: the framework document, the scheme rule, the regulator's own publication. Where a figure comes from a vendor's published pricing page, that is stated and dated, because those pages change without notice.
Nothing published here comes from any employer's internal systems, client relationships, incident history or commercial terms. See theeditorial and corrections policy for how errors are handled.
How it is funded
Display advertising, served by Google. Ads are selected automatically by Google, not sold by me, and no advertiser sees an article before it is published or has any say in what gets written. Some links to providers may earn a commission; those are labelled where they appear. Full detail is on the advertising disclosure page.
What this site is not
It is not a news service. There is no attempt to cover funding rounds, launches or industry announcements.
It is not legal, compliance or financial advice, and reading it does not create a professional relationship. Regulatory summaries are a starting point for a conversation with your own advisers, not a substitute for one.
