Privacy Policy

Effective TBD — set before launch · Applies to https://paymentsatlas.com

1.Who is responsible

Payments Atlas is an independent publication operated by an individual. For the purposes of the UK GDPR and EU GDPR, that individual is the data controller for the processing described here. Contact details are in section 10.

2.Summary

This is a static website. It has no accounts, no login, no comment system and no contact form. Most visitors can read the entire site without any personal data being processed beyond what is technically necessary to deliver a page.

Personal data is processed in three situations: advertising, analytics and the newsletter.

3.What is processed, and why

IP address, user agent, request timeServing pages, security, abuse preventionLegitimate interestsPer Cloudflare's log retention
Advertising identifiers and cookiesSelecting and measuring adsConsentPer Google's retention
Analytics identifiers and cookiesAggregate traffic measurementConsent14 months

4.Newsletter

If you subscribe, your email address is stored by the newsletter provider for the sole purpose of sending you the newsletter. Subscription is confirmed by a double opt-in email; unconfirmed addresses are deleted.

Your address is not sold, rented, shared or used to build a profile. Every issue carries a one-click unsubscribe link, which deletes you from the list. You can also email to have your address removed immediately.

5.Advertising

Advertising is served by Google and its partners, which use cookies and similar technologies to select ads, cap frequency and measure performance.

6.Consent

Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent before any advertising or analytics cookie is set, through a Google-certified consent management platform. Consent can be changed or withdrawn at any time through the same notice.

Where consent is refused, only non-personalised advertising is served and analytics is not loaded. Refusing does not restrict access to any part of the site.

7.Recipients

Personal data is disclosed to the following processors and third parties:

  • Cloudflare, Inc. — hosting and content delivery.Privacy policy.
  • Google LLC — advertising, consent management and, where enabled, analytics.Privacy policy.
  • The newsletter provider — storage and delivery of the newsletter.

Personal data is not sold, and is not shared for cross-context behavioural advertising.

8.International transfers

The providers above operate globally, so data may be processed outside your country, including in the United States. Transfers out of the EEA and UK rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or on an applicable adequacy decision, as set out in each provider's own documentation.

9.Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data held about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing already carried out.

Because this site holds very little data directly, most requests are best directed to Google or Cloudflare, who hold it. Requests about the newsletter, or about email you have sent, are handled by me and answered within 30 days.

If you are in the EEA or UK you may complain to your national supervisory authority. If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what is collected and to opt out of its sale or sharing; this site does neither.

10.Contact

Privacy questions and rights requests: hello@paymentsatlas.com. Please put "Privacy" in the subject line.

11.Changes

This policy is updated when the processing described in it changes. The effective date at the top reflects the current version. Material changes affecting newsletter subscribers are announced in the newsletter before they take effect.
